T in the Park has confirmed The Stone Roses as their first headliner for the festival next summer.

“Following an announcement made by the band earlier this evening, T in the Park organisers DF Concerts and founding partner Tennent’s Lager are thrilled to confirm that The Stone Roses will headline T in the Park 2012.” – T In The Park statement Monday, 7 November.

The announcement comes just a few weeks after The Stones Roses confirmed their reunion in October.

T in the Park is Scotland’s flagship music festival and one of the biggest events on the UK summer festival circuit with a weekend crowd of over 85,000 people. Next year’s T in the Park will take place on the weekend of 6-8 July at Balado, Scotland, UK. More details at www.tinthepark.com

Tickets went on general sale this week for Quebecois songstress Coeur De Pirate‘s show at the Mod Club in Toronto on 11 November. The Radio Wunderbar favourite is playing a rare show outside of French-Canada, with this being the sole Ontario date of three upcoming shows.

Joy Division co-founder Peter Hook is returning to the US and Canada in September for a 10 date tour. On alternate nights, as listed below, Peter Hook and The Light will perform sets with music from Joy Division albums Closer or Unknown Pleasures.

Peter Hook and The Light will play Toronto on Saturday, 24 September at the Phoenix presented by Embrace. Tickets for the Toronto show are on sale from tonight for $16.50 plus service charges at TicketWeb.ca, Rotate This and Soundwaves.

First performed for two charity supporting concerts to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Ian Curtis’ passing at The Factory in Manchester back in May of this year 2010, reaction to Hooky’s revival of the earliest material from his career has been met with great reactions from long term fans and newer devotees alike. Culling material from the first tracks written as Warsaw, Joy Division’s debut “An Ideal For Living” EP and then playing the band’s debut album, “Unknown Pleasures “ in full, the concerts have re-introduced Hooky’s and Joy Divison’s early repertoire to a host of new audiences across festivals and foreign tours.

Vancouver garage-rock duo The Pack A.D. will release their fourth studio album Unpersons on 13 September 2011.

Vancouver folk solo artist Dan Mangan is back with a new album and a Canada-wide tour.

Radiohead have announced this morning (14 February) that their new album The King Of Limbs will be released digitally this coming Saturday, 19th February.

The King Of Limbs will also be available in physical format as the “world’s first Newspaper Album”, in a package to be shipped on Monday 9 May. The Newspaper Album will include a CD, two 10″ vinyl records, “many large sheets of artwork, 625 tiny pieces of artwork and a full-colour piece of oxo-degradeable plastic to hold it all together” and a digital download of the album.

The pre-sale for The King Of Limbs is available now via TheKingOfLimbs.com, where you can find all the available details for The King Of Limbs.

Unlike their last release In Rainbows, this one is not a pay-what-you-can deal. The MP3 digital download copy of TKOL sells for £6.00 to UK residents and $9.00 for Canada and US.

The album share’s it’s name with a tree in Wiltshire’s Savernake Forest, thought to be around 1,000 years old.

Oshawa, Ontario’s Juno-nominated hard rock band Hail The Villain have cancelled their upcoming tour dates due to a medical condition with singer Bryan Crouch.  Crouch has been diagnosed with a polyp on his vocal cords and will have surgery to have it removed.  The band are calling off all shows until April 16 in Orlando, Florida.

Hail The Villain were due to play in Grand Prairie, Alberta tomorrow and had a schedule of dates throughout Canada and US.

Below is a message from singer Bryan Crouch:

Hello Everyone,

It is with great difficulty that I must announce that we will be cancelling our upcoming tour dates over the next 9 weeks.

I am in good spirits despite this disappointing situation, but it is essential that I take the proper time to rest and bring my voice back to its full potential.  I will be having minor surgery shortly to remove a polyp that has developed on my vocal cords.

Recently I have struggled with the decision of continuing to tour and give it my all, or putting things on pause for a minute and getting this taken care of immediately.  After our show in Edmonton this past Friday, it was pretty clear that my throat had made the choice for me.  I was fortunate enough to be able to see one of the greatest specialist’s in the field, and he confirmed what I had previously feared – it’s time to take care of this once and for all before causing permanent damage.  Being on stage is the greatest feeling in the world for me, and I refuse to let my band and our fans down by not being at my very best!

I would like to take a moment to apologize to anyone that was looking forward to seeing us soon, and thank my band for being truly supportive while standing by me throughout this difficult situation.  I want you all to know that I will be good to go soon, and that this is a fairly common problem for bands that tour as much as we do.  I plan on documenting my surgery and recovery every step of the way so that you can all get an idea of what it is that I’m going through, and what it’s going to take for me to get better.  As musicians, we all need to take care of our instruments, and as a singer, I’m no different.  It’s been an incredible year for us, and I want to be in top shape to continue at the same pace for years to come.

You all know I’m a crazy motherfucker, and I guess I just over rocked a bit? …well, maybe a lot, but YOU’RE ALL WORTH IT!

Thanks for your patience and understanding – be ready for us in the Spring!

Bob Dylan is coming to Australia this April for his first dates Down Under in nearly four years. Dylan will play shows in Adelaide, Melbourne, Syndey and Wollongong as well as making festival appearances in Byron Bay for Bluesfest and Fremantle for West Coast Blues & Roots.

For the date in Adelaide on 19 April, Dylan will be joined by the blues legend B.B. King. Further special guests are to be announced for the other dates. Dylan is also guaranteed a warm welcome when he plays WIN Entertainment Centre in Wollongong, Southern NSW, the venue that he opened thirteen years ago in 1998.

Bob Dylan has recorded more than 50 albums, has a career spanning six decades, is listed in Time Magazine’s ‘100 Most Important People of the Century’, is a Grammy award winner and Academy award winner. He turns 70 this year and continues on the road on his ‘Never Ending Tour’.

Stockholm, Sweden’s Lykke Li will release her second album, Wounded Rhymes, on her label LL Recordings on 1 March 2011. Lykke Li is also set to tour in North America in May next year in support of the new album.

The new album is produced by Bjorn Yttling of Peter, Bjorn & John and recorded in Stockholm. Wounded Rhymes is the follow up to Lykke Li’s critically-acclaimed debut, Youth Novels.

Lykke Li is set to perform a sold-out show at Le Poisson Rouge in New York City on Friday 1 December. Tickets for Glastonbury Festival 2011 go on sale at 9am (BST) on Sunday, October 3rd.

Glastonbury 2011 tickets are priced at £195  each, plus postage & packing and a £5 booking fee.

Fans who have registered to buy tickets can reserve them for a £50 deposit, with the remaining balance of £145 to be paid in Spring 2011 when the booking site re-opens. To book tickets, you will need the registration number and postcode for each person for whom you are booking a ticket. Registrations are currently suspended but will reopen on Monday 4 October; the initial pre-sale on Sunday will only be available to those who have registered already. Australian crowds can expect to party with Iggy Pop next year as the Stooges join the bill for Big Day Out 2011.

This year’s Big Day Out festival in Australia was MASSIVE. We summed it up by saying, “If this year was 10x better than last what’s next year going to be like?” – we can now answer that question… The initial line-up for Big Day Out 2011 has been revealed and it’s already shaping up to be even bigger and better than last year!

Confirmed headliners for Big Day Out 2010 are Tool, Rammstein, Iggy and The Stooges and M.I.A. (Gasp!)

American band Tool will be playing their first shows Down Under in four years and are sure to be a big draw. Similarly, Rammstein are one of Germany’s greatest musical exports and will be welcomed with open arms and raised devil horns by thousands of fans for the coast-to-coast dates of BDO in January and February. Iggy and The Stooges will remind us all once again that Raw Power is what it’s all about. Montreal’s Karkwa are the surprise winners of the 2010 Polaris Music Prize. The Quebec band beat off competition from the likes of Broken Social Scene and Tegan and Sara, with being Les Chemins De Verre being named the top Canadian album of 2010. It is the first time a francophone album has won the Polaris.

Picking up their prize along with a cheque for $20,000 at the award gala in Toronto from last year’s winners Fucked Up, Karkwa said their thank-yous in rather broken English: “It’s not industry gala… it’s not internet voting… it’s all about the music, and it means a lot to us! It’s just one prize, one album!”

The Polaris Prize is a prize given to the Canadian artist that a panel of almost 200 judges (bloggers, broadcasters, journalists and programmers) think produced the best album of the year. Sales are not taken into account. Artistic merit and the personal tastes of the judges what weigh in on the voting.

Kid Rock will release his eighth studio album Born Free on 16 November via Atlantic Records.

The new record is set to be devoid of the rap and metal elements of previous records, and seems set to be an altogether ‘more mature’ release.

Kid Rock said, “The catalyst for this record was Detroit, and my thoughts on the world through the lens of Detroit.  Watching everything go downhill over the past few years, the economy, the loss of jobs everywhere, I wanted to make a record that reflected the times but that still had soul.”

Keeping up with current trends, Kid Rock has collaborated with a whole host of artists on Born Free. Featured instrumentalists included Red Hot Chili Peppers‘ drummer Chad Smith, Benmont Tench (founding member of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers) and David Hidalgo of Los Lobos.  Meanwhile, studios in Detroit, Nashville and Atlanta were used to incorporate collaborations with Bob Seger, Sheryl Crow, Zac Brown and Trace Adkins. Keeping things eclectic, country singer Martina McBride joins rapper T.I. to collaborate on the track “Care”.

Kid Rock’s last album “Rock ‘N Roll Jesus,” released in 2007, debuted at #1 and became the biggest selling Rock album of 2008 after over 100 weeks in the charts.

Updated band performance times have been announced for the first annual Rockstar Energy Drink UPROAR Festival which will be held at Molson Canadian Amphitheatre in Toronto on Wednesday, 25 August.

As previously announced, doors will open at 7pm and the show starts at 8pm. Although the festival will begin later in the day in Toronto than in other cities and some performance times will overlap. The stages will be positioned so that the sound will not overlap.

At least 19 people have died and over 100 people have been injured after being crushed in a stampede at Love Parade in the city of Duisburg, Germany.

The disaster occurred when a massive crowd of people took a short cut through a tunnel at the festival site – the tunnel was too narrow to cope with the volume of people. The Guardian reports that:

“Police said the passageway quickly turned into a bottleneck, describing it as being like trying to get through “the eye of a needle”. Those inside panicked and a stampede ensued.”

The Love Parade website has been modified to display a simple message following the tragic events of today:

“Our wish to arrange a happy togetherness was overshadowed by the tragic accidents today. Therefore we are ending the live stream of the Loveparade. Our sincere condolences to all the relatives and our thoughts are with all of those who are currently being taken care of.  The city of Duisburg has set up a hotline at which concerned relatives can get further information: ++49 – (0) 203-94000.”

Love Parade is the largest electronic music festival in the world. It originated in Berlin in 1989 and over the years has grown to become immensely popular, attracting visitors from all over the world. The festival was held at Duisburg this year for the first time, and the attendance is estimated to have been possibly as much as 1.4 million people.

Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax have added additional dates to their upcoming American Carnage tour. The extra dates starts from 24 September, supplementing the existing Canadian and American summer dates, as well as European festival appearances.

On Leg Two of American Carnage, Megadeth will continue to roar through its landmark 1990 album Rust in Peace from front to back, while Slayer will rip the roof off by performing its much-lauded Seasons in the Abyss album, which was also released in 1990.  Anthrax recently welcomed back singer Joey Belladonna, who defined the band during its heyday, and now permanently back in the band, will be front-and-center.

A special pre-sale will launch this Wednesday, 14 July, and fans should log onto www.slayer.net – www.megadeth.com – or www.anthrax.com – to obtain the special code needed for the pre-sale, and then go to www.ticketmaster.com (http://knoxvilletickets.com/ for the Knoxville date) to purchase tickets.  The public on-sale will begin 23 July in most markets.

In the spirit of beating the recession, there will be pre-sale discounts on all tickets in most markets (see below for more details), and if that’s not enough, a limited amount of $10 tickets will be available in many cities – log onto any of the bands’ websites or onto Ticketmaster’s site for those details.

By popular demand, Miike Snow will be returning to Toronto in the Fall. Miike Snow will be playing at Kool Haus, Toronto on 9 October, presented by Embrace.

Many fans were left yearning for more after Miike Snow played a sold-out show at the Phoenix in April this year.

Tickets for the Kool Haus show go on sale Tuesday, 15 June at 9am and are available at Ticketweb.ca, Soundscapes, Rotate This and Play De Record. As with the band’s last appearance in Toronto, the show is ALL AGES.

Originating in Stockholm in 2007, Miike Snow [that's pronounced Mike Snow, not 'Mee-keh' Snow or anything else] is made up of New York City-based songwriter Andrew Wyatt and Swedes Christian Karlsson and Pontus Winnberg. Karlsson and Winnberg’s backgrounds in the DJ scene and punk bands alongside experiments in progressive electro and new rave led to a series of writing/producing stints with Madonna, Kelis, Jennifer Lopez, Kylie Minogue and Britney Spears culminating with a Grammy win for Best Dance Recording with her song “Toxic”.

We can also confirm that Miike Snow will be playing at Terminal 5, New York on 5 October. Further North American dates may be announced.
