A month ago Music Vice’s editor Brian Banks had the pleasure of meeting Carré Callaway of Los Angeles rock band Queen Kwong. The interview took place on yet another sunny and sweltering day in Toronto on Saturday afternoon, 19 June 2010 at Dundas Square. Queen Kwong had just finished playing a set at the square which was their third and final appearance at North by Northeast 2010. Carré talked about her experience at NXNE, her band, a bad gig the night before at Bovine Sex Club, plans for her forthcoming debut album, getting played on BBC6 Music, Iggy & The Stooges, as well as some chat about her healthy obsessions with cats and socks.

I’m looking forward to the release of the debut Queen Kwong album, which Carrré says we can expect to see later in 2010. The band’s sound is pretty straightforward, but by combining dirty grooves and beats with a hot female vocal you can’t really go wrong. Listen to the song “Pet” on the band’s Myspace for a teaser of the kind of tunes we might expect to hear on their debut record. Keep it sleazy, Queen Kwong, keep it sleazy.
