Brit Award-winning artist Plan B (aka Ben Drew) has announced details of his forthcoming album, Ill Manors, which is set for release through Atlantic Records on Monday, May 7th. The album is the follow to Plan B’s quadruple platinum-selling album The Defamation of Strickland Banks.

Speaking album the new album, Plan B said:

“You could call Ill Manors ‘bass-line, soul, hip-hop’. The album has the lyrical depth of my first record but the musical composition is light years ahead as it’s informed by everything I’ve learnt in the last five years – writing, producing and playing with a live band. I feel I’m better than I’ve ever been.”

That lyrical depth and soulful hip-hop sounds intriguing but the music is only half the story behind Ill Manors. The album will be preceded by the theatrical release of the accompanying full length motion picture ill Manors. The film will be released on Friday, May 4th and is written and directed by Plan B.

The title-track and lead single “ill Manors” drops on 26 March — the music video is now on Youtube [embedded below] has gone viral in the past 24 hours. At time of press this afternoon, the video has 63,000 views.

The video and song is based upon the 2011 London riots and features both staged scenes, with Ben Drew on the streets with actors dressed as chavs reenacting scenes of violence, together with actual recorded news footage of the riots. “Ill Manors” is bound to provoke comment and thought: Plan B is the first major artist to release work inspired by the riots, vandalism and looting that happened in England during August last year. There has been massive reaction to the video via Youtube comments and Twitter messages.

The anticipation for the theatrical release of Ill Manors is sure to grow in the next two months as discussions and viewings of the Youtube video grow. This independent film could be a surprise box office hit and will screen at cinemas nationwide across the UK from 4 May.

Plan B was unavailable for further comment today but we hope to interview Ben Drew later this year, closer to the release of ill Manors.
