The Libertines are rumoured to be reforming for a gig in London’s Hyde Park this summer

Over the Easter weekend, speculation has been rife with rumours about the legendary London band The Libertines reforming for a concert in London’s Hyde Park.

The band themselves have added to the rumours with frontman Pete Doherty speaking to Israeli newspaper YNet, which was translated by The Music Charger, revealing that he had given the green light for a Libertines reunion and cited financial reasons for the

“I don’t know if I should tell you this, but the Libertines were offered a concert in Hyde Park this July,” the singer . “They called me just yesterday … I said yes.”

Adding fuel to the rumour fire, the profile picture on the Libertines’ official Facebook page changed to a map of Hyde Park. Further speculation arose on Sunday when online magazine Giglutz allegedly spoke to Carl Barat who said that The Libertines reformation was “true”, “very much a possibility” and to “keep the 5th July free”

A date of July 5, would place the band’s gig during the Barclaycard British Summer Time: Hyde Park series. Confirmed acts for British Summer Time include Black Sabbath, Tom Jones, Neil Young and McBusted.

The band last performed together at the Reading and Leeds Festival in 2010.
