This review has moved, find it on the new Music Vice Magazine site here: Album Review: Martha Wainwright - Sans Fusils, Ni Souliers, A Paris: Martha Wainwright’s Piaf Record
This live album comprises fifteen tracks taken from three concerts that Martha Wainwright performed in New York this year as a tribute to Edith Piaf. This record is ambitious, you certainly can't deny that one and Wainwright pulls each song off so perfectly it will completely overwhelm you. Wainwright's voice, though nowhere near as distinguished as Piaf's, is strong and powerful yet tender and gorgeous at the right moments. Her French singing voice is also just incredible and you don't need to know a word of French to appreciate this. You'll be left with your chin on the floor by the end of this record. © Danny Crombie
