There are few moments of clarity on Serena Maneesh’s follow-up to their 2005 self-titled debut. Stumbling between pop, Scandinavian heaviness, shoegaze, and dizzy psychedelia, Serena Maneesh’s latest takes us to a plane where everything is distorted and nothing is as it seems. Abyss in B Minor is at its best on tracks “Reprobate!” and “Blow Yr Brains In The Morning Rain”, but they are at best a brief respite from the Norweigan band’s musical wild goose chase. This album drones on gratingly as it goes nowhere fast.
