Album Review: Bad Lieutenant - Never Cry Another Tear
They’ve been there and done that. Bernard Sumner is so well known for making such ground breaking and interesting music, but this record seems to fall flat for me. As much as I’m really not into New Order I can appreciate them and have been forced to listen to them enough by my NO mad girlfriend to really get what they were all about. I love Joy Division and can’t comprehend how two of the guys that made such confrontational and arresting music with Ian Curtis and Peter Hook made such a tame record as this I’ll never know. It’s really no fun to listen to and is essentially boring old Manc guitar music that you already heard over a decade ago. I gave up half way through. If you’re a die-hard fan of any of the guys’ previous work you might get into this but I can’t even force myself to like it. You could stick this on the stereo on a Sunday drive and put on Terry Wogan before you leave the driveway - at least with him he will make you feel something (hate for me). © Danny Crombie
