What: 2015 SiriusXM Indie Awards at CMW
Where: The Sheraton Centre, Toronto
When: Saturday, 9 May 2015
In One Word: Exciting

What an ending to Canadian Music Week! The Sheraton Centre was packed up tight with a growingly enthusiastic crowd for the 2015 Indie Awards.

With big names like Billy Talent headlining and new Toronto indie darlings Alvvays putting on a performance prior, to up and coming bands like Broncho and Miracles, the crowd was treated to an evening jam packed with great Canadian music.

Performing on a big stage in front of a huge crowd is really exciting for bands that as one of the vocalists said, have “played on stages smaller than that corner.” On top of their set, Miracles won the SIRIUSXM Emerging french artist of the year award.

USS (Ubiquitous Synergy Seeker) also taking home a prize guitar and record slip for Single of the Year, could not have been happier to be there.

Beaming lights, fog machines, screens so everyone in the Grand Ballroom can see the shows and award announcements, made for a night many will remember for a long time.

Going from the grungy, hard-hitting, energetic sounds of Broncho, to the rhythmic, poppy flow of Alvvays, right back to the continuously impressive stage presence of Billy Talent, made for a very rounded night for all the indie music lovers in attendance and a terrific end to another outstanding Canadian Music Week.

The sweatier it got in the room, the louder the music and more excited the fans got. There was thunderous clapping and shouting for Alvvays and ear piercing shrieks, countless crowd surfers and lyrics sung by the crowd over and over for Billy Talent – but the night ended a bit early for any fans expecting an encore.
