Google Maps, how I despise you. Already today you led me the wrong way to the cinema and now we can’t find the Arts Centre in Fremantle. Luckily a nice young man in a book shop directs us the right way and we get there for the last 3 songs of Ani DiFranco.

The setting is beautiful, whilst my home in the Northern Hemisphere is freezing and raining non-stop, we are in the garden on the arts centre with a beautiful summer sun, a relaxed atmosphere and good music that everyone is loving.

Ani DiFranco has a smile on here face and a twinkle in here eye you can’t help but love, she looks truly happy to be playing to the audience and sings luscious lyrics over beautiful folk music.

Her band is tight and clearly enjoying themselves, I feel that this is one of those just perfect shows. People who can’t afford to come into the show sit outside the wire fence where a girl sings every word along with DiFranco.

"The Waifs...a band with smiles plastered on their faces and a cosmic energy I’m slightly scared by."

Next up is Australian folk sweethearts The Waifs, I must admit I really have no idea who they are – I’m used to louder and angrier music. They’re a band with smiles plastered on their faces and a cosmic energy I’m slightly scared by.

The music is a bit cheesy but there’s nothing wrong with that - everyone loves it, the audience is one made up of hippies, older couples and children who all watch with adoring smiles or boogie along in the small spaces between travel rugs and empty beer cans.

The sun sets halfway through the set and the Waifs play til the end of the night. The gig ends and everyone leaves with those smiles plastered on their faces too. This is surely one of the most perfect of summer nights.
